Recent Work: Acrylic on Archival Paper

When I started this cut flower series a few months ago, I was always thinking, How are these flowers living? But with the reoccurring element, the reference of a typewriter eraser in a psychedelic way, just as a reference that we can play Let's Make Believe, I think the flowers are living from that.

My initial idea was a kind of scientific botanical reference, a bit like they have donated their imaginary bodies to science. When the composition became slightly symmetrical, a Tyrolian / East European edge added a new lilt beyond the botanical. Meanwhile this series started at the height of Saturn-Uranus opposition, like Peter Max balancing Thoreau.
With imaginary botany, you can have mixed leaves on stems, a huge magnolia bud blooming from a colored jade plant, some princess elements and greens. Saturn still in Virgo at the time, the structure aims for perfect edging, resisting bouquet. Then Saturn squared Pluto. It became unavoidable to address what happens below the dirt line, and thus it was time to address the roots.
The life giving typewriter eraser morphed into a golden cornflower anyway, shimmering like nouveau royalty, and thus the idea of flashy, curly, golden roots.

Eternal Aviary Peace

During the marketing phase of Bird Flu, when the press was reporting fear around a massive health crisis, the birds themselves ended up suffering a lot more than humans. In honor of those birds who gave their lives to that war, this image, depicting a proper Memorial Service, appeared in the Planet Waves 2006 Annual Edition.

Parallel Worlds

Venus holding two parallel hands of cards, references the year 2006, when many planets were simultaneously parallel to Earth's ecliptic. This image appeared in Planet Waves Annual Edition 2006.

This was a poster for one of the last concerts at Bethlehem Church in Hamburg before the church was forced to close one year later.

Festival Poster

Collaging our scanned-in drawings together in one Photoshop file, I made this poster with my son when he was five years old for his kindergarten's summer festival.

Identity for a Lutheran Parish

At an emotional turning point in the life of this parish in Hamburg, two of four churches survived the politics of budget cuts. It was heartbreaking to see churches close. Surprisingly though, a year after the churches closed, I was approached to create one logo and identity for the two remaining churches, Apostelkirche and Christuskirche.
